1. What do you teach at St. James Episcopal Day School?

"I am the Music Teacher."

2. What do you love about St. James?

"There are many things I love about St. James. I love our Monday and Friday church services. It is so meaningful to me. I love the people I work with who are so supportive and not easily flustered. They are so accommodating to me when their grade level may need an extra rehearsal. I love that I can work at a place where the children are happy to see me. I love that I can wrap my arms around one of these little ones and no one in administration is going to chastise me for doing it."

3. Why do you like teaching at St. James? What motivated you to become a teacher at St. James?

"I came to St. James in a rather unique way. The beloved music teacher before me passed away in September of 2000 and a friend asked if I would be able to help them prepare their Christmas program. I was staying home with my children at the time and wasn’t looking for a job. While working with the students and teachers to prepare the Christmas program, I was overwhelmed by the help of the teachers, the parents and fell in love with the students. I realized what a special place it was right away. After the Christmas program, Mr. Glisson asked me if I would work part time. St. James is my first teaching job and I hope it is my last."

4. What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?

"I try to share my enthusiasm for with my students. I show my excitement when they achieve a goal. I get emotional when a song if sung beautifully. I am animated when we are singing a silly song. I use my personality (or craziness) to excite them about our music class."

5. What sets St. James students apart from students in other schools?

"I think St. James students are able to gain a confidence and security within themselves by being at our school. the small class size lets the children feel safe enough to be themselves in front of their peers. I think this provides them with a confidence that is immeasurable."

6. What do you want your students to gain from having known you?

"I hope that my students feel loved by me and that when they are adults and singing to their babies that they will remember music class at St. James."

"I like that when the teachers are teaching you, it feels like you're having fun instead of actually learning."
