St. James Episcopal Day School is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2017–2019 for its culture of innovation and creativity. The elementary school’s transition to Apple technology has allowed the school community to engage in incredible ways. Both teachers and students can easily create digital content to facilitate instruction and to reflect on student learning in classrooms across the campus.

Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence that use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. They showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.

“We have worked diligently over the last few years to transform the learning experience for our students,” says Head of School, Lauren T. Ray. “Our I.T. department built the infrastructure to support the technology needs, and 100% of our teachers are Apple Certified. Our entire faculty and staff stepped up to the plate to make this happen. The teachers have as much fun with the technology as the students do! We were fortunate to have the full support of The Board of Trustees, who recognized early on that this would be an costly endeavor, but one that would mean tremendous gains for our school.”

The selection of St. James Episcopal Day School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment. St. James challenges teachers and students to get creative and use video production to tell stories. They use the remote green screens around campus to produce and edit digital content in just about every class. Now, the students have taken ownership and work together to produce content based on what is going on in the classrooms.
