The Fin Family
1. What do you love about St. James Episcopal Day School?
"My favorite thing about St. James is a feeling that is indescribable. I believe the feeling comes from knowing that my children have been placed into the hands of the most loving, nurturing and supporting teachers. They are so passionate about providing our children with the best possible learning experience, meeting each child's needs individually. The teachers at St. James work hard, and it shows. I see my children come home inspired to share what they have learned and then remain eager to learn more. As a parent, I also feel supported and this is invaluable as well. It encourages me to get involved, and I do because it allows me to be with my children and share the special moments that they experience. And those special moments are countless and priceless."
2. Why did you choose St. James Episcopal Day School for your children?
"St.James Episcopal Day School impressed us with its technology, its unique curriculum, and it's team of educators. Each grade has a multitude of resource teachers to help each child reach their full potential. The class sizes are very small which allows for more personal interaction between the students and the teachers. Having opportunities to learn a foreign language, music, art, and science were also enticing.
We had friends whose children went to SJEDS and the stories they shared seemed magical, almost too good to be true. After experiencing SJEDS for ourselves, we soon began sharing our own cherished moments."
3. In what ways have you seen your children grow in their faith as a result of their experience at St. James Episcopal Day School?
"I have seen my children grow in faith at St. James in many ways. From learning to realize their blessings to finding an understanding of those less fortunate, I have seen my children develop a giving spirit. Yet, the most impressive thing was when my daughter, at 4 years old, consoled her classmate; neither of them old enough to understand the situation but prepared enough to hear the message. My daughter's classmate's mother was battling with cancer and while the children did not know what that meant, the child was sad; something scared her. That's when my daughter told her, "Don't be sad. Even if you can't see your mom, she will always be with you, in your heart. It's just like Jesus. He is always with you, too." This message is pretty profound for a 4 year old to make and I believe St. James was the environment that encouraged the love and support that she gave."
4. The St. James Day School tagline is “Excellence, Faith, Community.” How does your child experience excellence at St. James?
"Excellence is demonstrated by my children in their work ethic and the advancements that they have made. I am
amazed at how quickly and how easily my children learned to read. They have also excelled at math and math concepts. Speaking another language, building robots, and experiencing music education are just a few of the amazing bonuses. St. James has dedicated it's time and resources to provide the latest and the greatest technology, to give teachers enrichment opportunities so that they can bring into the classroom and to incorporate the learning experiences for our children use in their daily lives."
5. What would you tell another parent to encourage them to consider enrolling their child at St. James Episcopal Day School?
"If parents want the best for their children, St. James Episcopal Day School is the place. This school is unsurpassed in its dedication to the students and families. The learning environment is supportive and enriching and the school's curriculum is up to date and effective. Though these things are wonderful reasons for enrolling a child in SJEDS, the best reason is that this school embraces each child's unique talents and gifts. It encourages the children to use their gifts and develop them further. Each child has their own individual path and the teachers work in a collaborative way to ensure that this path is followed."

"I not only have a passion for teaching but I adore children. I love to see their interest in the subject I am teaching. I am not afraid to get down on the floor with them, to be at their level, to do what is best to make my lessons meaningful to them."
